It was way back in 1966 when founder George Butterfield, together with a few friends launched&nbsp;Butterfield &amp; Robinson (B&amp;R)&nbsp;as a way to share time together while enjoying their enthusiasm for travel and fitness activities. Some of the best things in life are enjoyed slowly, which is how we approach our exploration of the Veneto; a region that encompasses the area just south of the central Alps and Dolomites. We begin in timeless Venice, amid the palaces of a bygone era, with the renowned city of canals mere minutes from the start of our first ride. From here, we head west through the Po River valley along an ancient trade and military route—the Roman Road—via Postumia. Originally part of the Holy Roman Empire, it came under French control in the 17th century following the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648. However, Alsace's strategic location made it a focal point of Franco-German conflicts, particularly during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71, when it was annexed by the newly unified German Empire.
