Carbon Neutral Trip
Laos (officially the Lao People's Democratic Republic), lives deep within traditions nurtured for centuries, where a calm pace brings rewards of chance encounters and simple joys. With its Buddhist legacy, miles of lush Mekong River, stunning mountain vistas, rice paddies and forests—Laos exudes serenity where locals move to a gentle rhythm. Walk the streets of UNESCO-protected city and ancient capital Luang Prabang, explore the modern capital of Vientiane and witness the dawn ritual of Buddhist monks and the cascading turquoise waters of Kuang Si waterfall. From the landscape to the culture to the cuisine, Laos is full of treasures.

Laos is sure to leave a lasting impression. First-time visitors often remark, “it’s my favourite country that I had never heard of.”

In Luang Prabang, the epicenter of domestic Buddhist tradition, alongside dilapidated colonial architecture, provides an interesting setting of calm, serene and intrigue.

Traditional, easygoing and largely unchanged, the deeper you go into Laos, the more its fascinating history and culture is revealed.

Sofitel Luang Prabang

Serenity and magic and built upon a UNESCO Site, in the heart of small town Luang Prabang, this former Governor’s mansion is a beautifully redesigned oasis of calm featuring tastefully designed suites, a wonderful spa and pool and all blended into classic and contemporary Asian style design. Welcoming staff and an extra attention to even the smallest detail is specially crafted to make your time there memorable and unforgettable.

There are so many memorable moments from our Laos trip, in particular dancing in the moonlight on the 'party boat'. A surreal experience that wouldn't have happened without Butterfield & Robinson.
