Few places can compare with the charm and sheer aesthetic beauty of Provence. But don’t take our word for it. Gaze at the dazzling yellow light and smokey green spires of the cypress trees through Van Gogh’s eyes. Everything has star quality here, Michelin or otherwise, from the lavender chocolate to the marvellously unhurried Côtes du Rhônes. Here, in France’s southeast, beautiful landscapes wash over you. From mountains to coastlines to fields of lavender and sunflowers, Provence is like a living work of art. Here are some highlights to inspire your private, tailor-made journey.

The quintessential countryside cycling, from flat valleys to hilltop medieval stone villages, passing lavender fields, or hike from village-to-village.

The Provençal light that inspired great artists like Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Cezanne and their contemporaries.

The delicious Mediterranean cuisine enjoyed with a refreshing glass of rosé.

Provence Biking & Walking

Provence offers superb biking, walking or a mix of the two—we'll help you choose the best options depending on the day. Walk your way along the footsteps of Van Gogh, who sought out the unparalleled light of Provence while perusing the delights of hilltop towns. Or cycle past lavender fields, over a Roman bridge or climb Mont Ventoux—for the intrepid traveller. Offering a variety of landscapes, from the lunar-like Alpilles (small Alps) to the quiet countryside of the Luberon Valley, whether on foot or pedal, you’ll explore the region’s natural wonders and unique terrain.

Lavender blooms in Provence from June through August, however the best time to see it is between late June and early July. It’s important to note that these are particularly hot months and a popular time for tourism in Provence.
